macOS pointer speed is not the sensor DPI
macOS provides cursor and tracking controls, but those controls should not be treated as a display of the mouse sensor's internal DPI setting. The exact hardware value depends on the mouse and its software or onboard memory.
Use the mouse manufacturer's software
If your mouse has a macOS-compatible configuration utility, use it to inspect or change DPI stages. Some mice store the setting internally, while others rely on an application profile.
Use a physical-distance test
If you want an independent estimate, use the Mouse DPI Analyzer. Enter a measured distance, perform several straight trials and compare the average and median.
Keep your test conditions stable
- Use the same surface for every trial.
- Do not change tracking speed during the test.
- Move in a straight line.
- Avoid lifting the mouse.
- Repeat multiple trials.
Understand the limitation
A browser cannot read the mouse sensor's internal DPI register. The result is therefore a practical pointer-based estimate rather than a certified hardware reading.
