Start with the complete input chain
Learn how mouse acceleration changes the relationship between physical movement and pointer movement. Mouse DPI is only one variable. The operating system, game sensitivity, acceleration and polling behavior can all affect what you see on screen.
DPI is not the same as sensitivity
DPI describes the mouse-side count rate. Game sensitivity applies another transformation to those input counts. A different DPI can be paired with a different sensitivity to produce a similar overall feel.
Use repeatable measurements
- Record your current DPI and game sensitivity.
- Keep the OS pointer configuration unchanged.
- Change one variable at a time.
- Use eDPI or cm/360 to document the result.
- Practice under comparable conditions before deciding whether a change helps.
Check an unknown DPI
Use the manufacturer's software when available. If you need an independent browser-based estimate, use the Mouse DPI Analyzer and repeat several physical-distance trials.
Why consistency matters
A setup is easier to evaluate when the conditions are stable. Keep the same mousepad, display configuration, operating-system settings and game settings during comparisons. Avoid changing multiple variables at once.
Important limitation
A browser tool cannot read the sensor's internal DPI register. Its result is an estimate based on pointer input. Treat it as a practical diagnostic rather than a certified hardware measurement.
